Concept render of Surf Side at dusk

The vision

Somewhere people belong.

Modern life gives us endless ways to communicate, and fewer places to genuinely spend time together. Surf Side should become one of those places.

Why we’re doing this

Leisure and hospitality can do more than sell activities, food and drinks. They can create places people belong.

Traditional social spaces are changing. People want experiences, movement, wellbeing — and somewhere they can bring their children, meet friends, and feel is theirs.

Surf Side isn’t somewhere you book a 30-minute activity and leave. It’s somewhere you stay. Somewhere you learn. Somewhere your children grow in confidence. Somewhere you eat, have a drink and watch the water.

That’s the idea behind everything we’re proposing at Hove Lagoon.

Surf Side is a proposal. Everything described is planned and subject to planning.

Rider on the surf machine at golden hour

Surf.

Waves, every day

Two proposed surf machines bring consistent, repeatable surfing to Brighton & Hove — for first-timers and for riders who want to progress.

Paddleboarders on calm water

Play.

The whole lagoon

Wakeboarding, paddleboarding and canoeing continue. Wing surfing arrives. Coaching grows. More ways to be on the water.

Friends on the clubhouse balcony at dusk

Connect.

A place to belong

A clubhouse, food and drink, families, members and events — somewhere you stay, not somewhere you pass through.

The feeling we’re building for

  • A six-year-old catching their first wave
  • A teenager learning to wakeboard
  • Someone trying wing surfing for the first time
  • Families paddling together
  • A parent watching from the clubhouse
  • Friends meeting after work
  • Coffee overlooking the lagoon
  • Someone surfing before work
  • Drinks at sunset
  • Local people recognising faces
  • Children growing up around the water
