Concept render of the lagoon by day with two surf machines and the wakeboard cable

The water

Surf. Wake. Wing. Paddle. Explore.

One lagoon, more ways to move. Surf Side builds on the watersports already at Hove Lagoon — and adds new ones.

Two proposed surf machines. Consistent, repeatable waves.

Two surf machines creating a steady, repeatable wave on the lagoon — so the first stand-up and the hundredth session both happen on the same reliable water. Suitable for people learning their first movements through to experienced riders developing their skills.

Wakeboarding

Part of the lagoon's story. And its future.

Wakeboarding has been part of Hove Lagoon for years, and it stays at the heart of what happens on the water. We intend to relocate and upgrade the cable, keep the sessions running, and give more people the coaching to get up and ride.

Wing surfing

The next progression. Coming to the lagoon.

A handheld wing, a surfboard and the wind doing the work — a feeling like nothing else. We intend to bring wing surfing to Hove Lagoon with sheltered, coached sessions — a genuinely new way for people in Brighton & Hove to learn something new.

Stand-up paddleboarding

Easy to start. Easy to share.

Accessible, social and calm. Paddleboarding is one of the simplest ways onto the water — ideal for beginners, groups and families spending an hour together on the lagoon.

Canoeing

Small hands. Big adventures.

A friendly first step onto the water for children, families, schools and groups. Canoeing stays part of the lagoon, and part of how young people build confidence around water.
