Hove Lagoon · Brighton & Hove
The idea
Our vision for the next chapter of Hove Lagoon — built around movement, food, family, wellbeing and, most importantly, people.
You don’t have to surf to belong here.
One lagoon. More ways to move.
Two surf machines creating a steady, repeatable wave on the lagoon — so the first stand-up and the hundredth session both happen on the same reliable water. Suitable for people learning their first movements through to experienced riders developing their skills.
Your first wave
Surf Side isn’t only for experienced surfers. From first attempts to first waves, our coaching will be designed to help young people build confidence, learn new skills and discover a lifelong connection with the water.
Children’s coaching is planned from approximately six years old, subject to final operating requirements, safety requirements and individual ability.
They arrive, never having surfed.
They meet their coach.
They learn about the board.
They try.
They fall. They laugh.
They try again.
And then… they stand up.
Their parents are watching. They’ve caught their first wave.
That moment matters. Learn. Progress. Belong.
Family
Not a 30-minute slot and home again. A day by the water — coaching, coffee, lunch, a paddle, friends arriving, the light changing. We want families to spend time together here.

A child meets their coach at the water's edge.

A parent watches from the balcony, coffee in hand.

Their sister tries paddleboarding for the first time.

Everyone meets for lunch. Grandparents arrive.

Friends turn up. Someone gets back on the water.

Food, a drink, the lagoon turning gold.

The clubhouse
A proposed two-storey clubhouse with a large first-floor balcony looking straight across the lagoon. Somewhere you’d come even with no intention of getting wet.
Current concept — proposed and subject to design development and planning. Solar generation where feasible.
Food & drink
Hospitality isn’t an add-on here. From the first coffee to the last drink at sunset, food and drink is at the core of Surf Side — fresh, generous and made for sharing.

Menus, operators and opening hours will be announced later.
For everyone
Community first
Visitors will matter. But Surf Side should be rooted in the people who live here — used regularly, not once a year. A strong membership culture, a place you recognise faces.
“I’ll meet you at Surf Side.”
Human connection
We’ve never had more ways to message each other — or fewer places to actually spend time together. Places to move, laugh, learn, eat and meet. Places where children aren’t just looking at screens.
Families connect.
Friends meet.
Children learn.
People move.
Communities form.
Memories are made.
The project is expected to create at least 50 new employment opportunities, across:
And wider opportunities for local suppliers, local accommodation, tourism, events, hospitality, local businesses.

Hove Lagoon
We’re not arriving to replace what’s here. We want to invest in it. Wakeboarding continues. Paddleboarding continues. Canoeing continues. Surfing and wing surfing arrive. Coaching expands. The clubhouse gets better. The community grows.
Membership
Membership shouldn’t just mean cheaper sessions. It should mean belonging — your people, your place, your lagoon.
Benefits we’re exploring
Membership benefits, pricing and terms haven’t been set and will be announced later.
